There a many great tips! I chose four to post:
This is a great tip by Susan Ferrier. My shop carried it’s own private label 100% laid-pile mohair. Perfect for upholstery. As velvet ages the color softens and, like leather, it develops a beautiful “patina”; classy look when worn in.
Also, patterned wallpaper strengthens a room while no pattern paper softens the space. Use wallpaper without a pattern to soften strong design furnishings and accents.
Here’s an excellent tip from Sallie Giordano! You never want to match your walls to a color in one of your fabrics… too strong. Have you ever looked closely at a textured chenille? The colors are usually much brighter than the overall look; the colors blended together become much more subtle. Step back from your fabric and choose a color that blends nicely for the walls.
Scandinavia’s have been using higher coffee tables for years. Perfect for family and small gatherings. Pull up a couple of foot stools for the other side of the sofa to dine together. You can also leave footstools under table and pull out to eat.
Brass is making a comeback!
Winter 2014 Larger Than Light, A Guide to Illuminating Design, has a great selection of brass lighting. Check out the lighting for 2014 as well as the Trend Watch on Page 8: Winter 2014 Larger Than Light.
Mixing metals is also a new trend. You can find all kinds of ideas for brass home designs on Houzz.com. Above photo can be found at http://www.houzz.com/photos/98831/warmington-north-traditional-kitchen-seattle
